ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø is committed to fostering a learning environment where every member of our community feels respected valued, and empowered to speak freely. In early 2024, Provost Joy K. Ward launched the Enhancing Civility & Connection initiative. This effort began during a time of global unrest and deep concern, with the goal of encouraging open, thoughtful dialogue across campus. Today, this mission remains as critical as ever. Read Provost Ward’s original letter to learn more about the origins and goals of this initiative.
Skills for Engaging in Civil Discourse
The Civil Discourse Advisory Group has developed a core list of 10 essential civil discourse skills that all students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to explore and practice. These skills are at the heart of a range of university-wide efforts to promote respectful dialogue, deeper understanding, and a greater sense of connection.
Critical Conversations
This monthly series engages a panel of experts in "Critical Conversations" about important cross-disciplinary and often controversial topics. Each panel will cover several themes within the topic, such as historical, legal, societal, ethical, and medical contexts. This is followed by a rich Q&A session interaction with the audience.
