Congratulations to ���ϳԹ��� School of Law alum Richard Batson (LAW ‘02), who was recently promoted to the rank of Rear Admiral and appointed to be The Judge Advocate General and Chief Counsel of the U.S. Coast Guard.

When the television series Star Trek launched in 1966, it set out to chronicle the exploits of the starship USS Enterprise’s crew in the 23rd century. What the show’s creators likely didn’t anticipate was the impact Star Trek would have on popular culture for decades to follow. 

On August 31, 2023, Brenda Hollis, the International Prosecutor in charge of the International Criminal Court’s Ukraine investigation, discussed her work at ���ϳԹ��� School of Law to a packed audience.

While many of his law school peers were pursuing careers in corporate law, Andres Perez (LAW ’04) felt called to a a different path: international criminal law and human rights.

“Razing the Bar,” ���ϳԹ��� School of Law’s faculty/student/alumni rock band, will kick off the 2023 Jam for Justice as the lead band on August 23 at the Beachland Ballroom. The in-person event features nine local lawyer rock bands, with proceeds benefitting the Legal Aid Society of Cleveland.

One of the many things that makes the law school’s Legal Writing, Leadership, Experiential Education, Advocacy and Professionalism (LLEAP) program special is that each LLEAP course includes an experiential component taught by adjunct professors who are practicing attorneys.

Every American generation has had to respond to foreign tyrants. The Greatest Generation stood up to Hitler, Mussolini, Hirohito and Stalin. The Baby Boomers grappled with Castro, Khomeini, Hussein, and Gaddafi.

With her family originating in Bordeaux, Léa Cazaudumec Lucas was fortunate to avoid the experience of culture shock when she jetted to Lyon, France, to begin her summer internship with Interpol.

As an associate editor of the War Crimes Prosecution Watch newsletter, 3L Nicholas Vanarthos spent much of his second year learning about the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan, as well as issues related to the Ivory Coast, the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia and the Lake Chad Region in central Africa.

Rising second-year law student Sarah Tibbitts is spending her summer working as a legal intern for the League of Women Voters United States, a nonpartisan, nonprofit national organization that works to protect and expand voting access through advocacy, litigation and education. 

Third-year law students Jessica Chapman and Harper Fox spent their summer on a self-designed international law research project around Western and Central Europe to study a topic they are both passionate about: memorialization and the impact of legacy work on local communities and visitors following situations of mass atrocities. 

In the heart of Washington, D.C., rising 2L Emma Kerro is spending her summer as a legal intern for the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs.
