In one of a series of security improvements to better defend against email misuse, University Technology ([U]Tech) is making changes to ϳԹ email defenses.
On Thursday, April 13, the [U]Tech Email Team, in collaboration with the [U]Tech Information Security Office, will implement improved email spam analysis on all email messages sent from a email addresses to non-ϳԹ recipients. Email messages that are marked as spam will be filtered. Senders will receive a “bounce” notification when an email message has been filtered by the email defense process.
Over the past three months, ϳԹ has endured a series of cyber-attacks that resulted in spam email being sent from compromised ϳԹ user accounts. These “spam campaigns” resulted in ϳԹ email being blacklisted or blocked from certain destinations. This negatively affected the availability of email communications for all users. [U]Tech is committed to working toward solutions like the filter process to ensure seamless email communications across the university continues.
Email messaging between internal ϳԹ users (with email addresses) will not be affected by the change in email defenses.
