Brian Gran, associate professor of sociology with a secondary appointment in law, recently appeared on WEWS NewsChannel 5 four times, giving his perspective on children’s rights in the Gina DeJesus, Amanda Berry and Michelle Knight case.
In addition, he attended and participated in a discussion on human rights indicators at the United Nations. The talk, May 10, was titled "Human Rights Indicators and the Post-2015 Development Agenda" and included a look at the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights' new publication, "Human Rights Indicators: A Guide to Measurement and Implementation."
Gran’s research is focused on two projects on children’s rights: developing an international and U.S. measure of children’s formal rights and identifying factors that promote or hinder children’s rights. In 2012, he to conduct his research in Iceland, where he studied the country’s efforts to protect children.
