Students can participate in the Responsible Conduct of Research for Undergraduates series to learn about research ethics. Four seminars, all held on Thursdays, will be from 1 to 1:50 p.m. in Sears Library Building, Room 548. Students will earn a certificate of completion upon finishing all four sessions. Support of Undergraduate Research and Creative Endeavors and the Office of Research Administration co-sponsor the series. The following sessions will be offered through the program. Communication and Collaboration

Oct. 18 This session will address what students should expect from the relationships they have with the principal investigator, the graduate students and the postdocs. It also will cover what students understand what training they should have before they start.

Laboratory Safety

Nov. 1 Research involves inherent risks to those working in the laboratory. This session will help students who plan to work with viruses, radiation or other potentially harmful substances learn how to protect themselves and understand what training they should have before they start.

Humans and Animals

Nov. 15 When performing research involving humans or animals it is important to understand your responsibilities. This session will cover how to protect human subjects in research, as well as outline the practices employed by the university to ensure humane care and use of animals in research.

Data Management

Nov. 29 Data management encompasses many topics including acquisition, analysis, security, confidentiality, sharing, custody and retention of data. This seminar will introduce the standards available for managing research data and provide guidelines for best practices.
