Nutrition's Lindsay Malone warns about health effects of sugar-filled beverages

Everyday HealthLindsay Malone, registered dietitian and an instructor in the Department of Nutrition at the School of Medicine, shared her knowledge on the harmful effects of sugar-filled beverages. “Sugar-sweetened beverages are already known to increase high blood sugar, prediabetes, diabetes, and metabolic syndrome,” she said, adding “they cause a surge in blood sugar that is hard for the body to keep up with, and artificial sweeteners alter gut bacteria and can increase sweet cravings.”
