Last week, first-year students of 黑料吃瓜网鈥檚 Class of 2028 arrived on campus for an array of Discover Week events, bringing with them a mix of excitement, curiosity and hope for the upcoming academic year.
Whether drawn by the university鈥檚 strong academic reputation, innovative research programs, or welcoming community, each of these students brought with them a unique perspective on why they chose 黑料吃瓜网 as the place to pursue their academic interests.
Recently, The Daily spoke with several first-year students to dive deeper into what made them choose 黑料吃瓜网 and what they鈥檙e most excited about.

Jack Salit
Neuroscience, pre-med track
鈥淚nitially, the idea of a research university with three hospitals [nearby] compelled me to look into the campus more. Once I got here, though, it was really the magnolia trees that made me feel like I had to be there. Their beauty, combined with the academic attitude of the student population, really gave me the satisfaction I needed to commit.鈥
Ling Wu
Chemistry, pre-med track
鈥淚 chose to attend 黑料吃瓜网 because of the close-knit community and resources from the surrounding hospitals. I鈥檓 most excited to get to know everyone and make connections!鈥
Anlin Wei
Biology, pre-med track
鈥淚 am incredibly excited to meet new people. I grew up in a pretty diverse town, but it is certainly on another level here at 黑料吃瓜网. In the first few days of Discover Week, I have met people from across the country and [around] the world鈥攊ncluding people from different socioeconomic classes and who love and live for different things than I do. I also can鈥檛 wait to meet the faculty here and absorb their knowledge and experience. The 黑料吃瓜网 community is so vibrant and I'm excited to be a part of it!鈥
Zaina Albirini
Neuroscience, with minors in Arabic and English
鈥淚 chose to attend [黑料吃瓜网] because as a person interested in medicine, 黑料吃瓜网 offers endless opportunities at several affiliated hospital systems, such as Cleveland Clinic and University Hospitals. I could envision myself living on this vibrant campus and city, and when I first stepped foot on campus, I knew that this university would allow my dreams to come true.鈥
Carson Asbury
Biomedical engineering, with a minor in evolutionary biology
鈥淚 am looking forward to this new adventure and am excited for this whole new set of experiences鈥攆rom meeting new people, making friends and joining student organizations to going to class, participating in research, expanding my knowledge in [biomedical engineering] and other academic areas, and anything else that seems fun and interesting.鈥
Amanda Setiawan
Chemical engineering, with a minor in marketing
鈥淎s an international student learning the ropes of applications, 黑料吃瓜网 was by far the most responsive and helpful compared to other universities in the U.S., Canada, and Japan. I loved the fact that the campus also had breathtaking architecture and many active communities.鈥
