The campus will be closed this Wednesday, June 19, in observance of Juneteenth, the day we commemorate the end of chattel slavery in the United States.
However you choose to celebrate Juneteenth, we invite you to reflect, learn and engage as Americans, alongside one another and united in freedom. You can:
- RSVP to the , which will take place this Friday, June 21 from noon to 2 p.m. at the Case Quad. The annual event is hosted by the Office for Diversity, Equity and Inclusive Engagement, School of Medicine, Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing, and Jack, Joseph and Morton Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences.
- Attend Juneteenth events near you. Here in Cleveland, you can attend the on Wednesday, June 19 from noon to 4 p.m., or any of these events taking place in and around .
- Review the National Museum of African American History and Culture’s to learn more about the holiday.
Importantly, the university is committed to cultivating an inclusive campus environment through education and programming. We encourage all faculty, staff and students to consider participating in workshops and training offered year-round by the Office for Diversity, Equity and Inclusive Engagement. These programs will enhance your own understanding and advance inclusion on campus.
