Across Northeast Ohio—and throughout the U.S.—voters are taking to the polls today (Tuesday, Nov. 8) until 7:30 p.m. And at ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø, we’re taking students there.
The university’s Center for Civic Engagement and Learning (CCEL), Office of the President, and Division of Student Affairs are sponsoring Election Day shuttles to transport ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø students to two off-campus polling locations in Cleveland from 10 a.m. to 5:15 p.m.
Such efforts—plus and education resources—are among the many reasons ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø was named a 2021-22 .
In addition, this spring, President Eric W. Kaler became one of 15 college and university leaders serving on the President’s Council of the , a nationwide, nonpartisan effort to increase student voter registration and turnout. While college students’ voting rates have traditionally been among the lowest in the U.S., the 2020 election saw their participation jump to 66%—14 percentage points higher than four years earlier. Overall midterm election voting rates, however, often trail general elections by as much as 18 to 20 percentage points.
Shuttle details
Students interested in taking a shuttle to their polling places—Mary M. Bethune School for most northside residents and St. Paul’s Episcopcal Church for most southside residents—should , though walk-up registration will be accepted. Masks are required on university shuttles, and seats on each shuttle are available on a first-come, first-served basis. (Unsure where you vote? )
Students on the north side of campus must check in at the CCEL office (Tinkham Veale University Center Room 168) before being picked up at the Tinkham Veale University Center on Bellflower Road to go to the Mary M. Bethune School polling location. Southside students can check in and pick up a shuttle at the One to One Fitness Center driveway (2158 Adelbert Road) to go to the St. Paul’s Episcopal Church location.
The time needed to vote varies, depending on wait times at polling locations and the location of the shuttle. All students should be prepared to wait as needed.
