: Peter Whiting, professor in the Department of Earth, Environmental, and Planetary Sciences, said climate change is one culprit for the increased flooding in the region. Whiting said that while some areas of the country get less rain than they used to because of climate change, Northeast Ohio gets more because of its temperate climate and global air circulation patterns that bring it moisture from the Atlantic Ocean.
