While people around the country have been recognizing Sexual Assault Awareness Month throughout April, student organization #MeToo ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø has made sexual violence awareness, prevention and survivor support their mission year-round.
Initially formed during the summer of 2020, and officially recognized by Undergraduate Student Government this semester, #MeToo ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø’s main objectives are to provide support for survivors, to educate the community on sexual violence and related topics such as toxic masculinity and the Title IX process, and to raise awareness of what sexual violence is and how to prevent it.
To help achieve these goals, #MeToo ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø hosts multiple support groups for survivors every month, designed to provide a safe space for students, created by students. Both undergraduate and graduate students are invited to anonymously join.
In addition to their support groups, #MeToo ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø also has hosted several initiatives to engage and educate the campus community, including a virtual showing of the movie The Hunting Ground, discussion-based events with ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø Greek Life chapters, and a display in Tinkham Veale University Center showcasing messages of support for survivors.
On April 29, the group will host a —a lawyer specializing in Title IX law. The conversation will focus on victims’ rights versus the rights of the accused, and recent changes in Title IX regulations.
