New Jersey Today: Daniel Flannery, director of the Begun Center for Violence Prevention Research and Education, said that in 2019, 3.6 million handguns were manufactured in the U.S., while another 2.5 million handguns were imported. The “sheer availability” of handguns is behind their popularity, Flannery said.
