The campus community is invited to a screening of the film The New Black on Friday, Oct. 17, at 12:30 p.m. in Clark Hall 205, followed by a discussion on race and lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) rights.
Speakers will include Baptist minister Shaundra Cunningham, LGBT grassroots organizer Nicole Thomas and Rev. Cory Jenkins of Shiloh Baptist Church.
The award-winning documentary tells the story of how the African-American community grapples with the issue of gay rights in light of the recent marriage equality movement and the fight over civil rights.
The event is sponsored by the university's LGBT Center and the Social Justice Institute.
