On Saturday, April 6, ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø will host an Interfaith Student Leadership Regional Conference for students, faculty and staff. The conference, co-sponsored by John Carroll University and Oberlin College, is intended to encourage individuals to share ideas and experiences about building interfaith engagement on our campuses and to build relationships among the students, faculty and staff interested in interfaith dialogue and interfaith community service.
There will be opportunities for both formal and informal sharing as well as an on-site service project sponsored by the Center for Civic Engagement & Learning.
The conference is part of ºÚÁϳԹÏ꿉۪s participation in the . Attendees will be visiting from more than a dozen colleges and universities including Allegheny, Mount Union, Denison, Albion, Antioch and Heidelberg.
All ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø students, faculty and staff and invited to attend at no cost and can sign up . Registration includes morning coffee and a free lunch.
Conference sign-in will begin at 10 a.m. in Nord Hall 310. Mohammad Jafar Mahallati, Presidential Scholar of Islam at Oberlin College, will give the keynote address. Mahallati received his PhD in Islamic Studies from McGill University, writing his dissertation on the ethics of war in Muslim cultures. His current research involves the ethics of friendship in Muslim cultures and examines cultural and traditional factors that can be utilized in modern interfaith and international relations. Mahallati’s talk will be followed by a variety of break-out sessions.
