Elina Gertsman, a professor in the Department of Art History ad Art, received one of two inaugural Karen Gould Prizes from the Medieval Academy of America, awarded for a distinguished book in the field of medieval art history. The award is for her recently published monograph, . Christina Maranci, professor at Tufts University, also received the prize for her monograph, Vigilant Powers.

Prize details

The Karen Gould Prize is awarded annually for a monograph in medieval art history judged by a selection committee to be of outstanding quality. The prize is named for art historian Karen Gould (1946–2012), who specialized in manuscript illumination and was the author of The Psalter and Hours of Yolande of Soissons. Winners of the prize receive a certificate and a monetary award of $1,000, which is divided in the case of two winners. The prize will be presented at the Academy’s annual meeting at Emory University in Atlanta.
