ACE is pleased to once again be presenting an exciting Lecture Day on a current international topic. Our presentations centering on a country, its past, present and possible future have been very popular and this year we are returning to that format. We will be discussing the island of Hispaniola, home to Haiti and the Dominican Republic. The Dominican Republic is known primarily as a tourist destination. Haiti, sadly, is known as a failed state with chaos and violence in the streets, hunger and illness in its population, and for receiving the US State Department's highest level of warning to travelers. What lies ahead for Haiti is unknown, as is what would facilitate a good outcome for the Haitian people.
Come hear what our experts in the region have to say. Our speakers will be Jose Sola PhD, Professor of History with a special interest in the Caribbean at Cleveland State University and Martha Santos, PhD, Associate Professor of Latin American History at the University of Akron. Our Moderator will be Heather Hodges, President and Ambassador in Residence at The Cleveland Council on World Affairs. She has extensive diplomatic experience in Latin America.
