School of Law

Juliet Kostritsky practiced in the banking/corporate department at Milbank Tweed Hadley and McCloy from 1980 until 1984 when she joined the ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø law faculty. She holds an endowed chair, the Everett D. and Eugenia S. McCurdy Professor of Contract Law. She teaches Contracts, Sales, Commercial Paper, Advanced Contracts and the Business and Law Colloquium.

Kostritsky spearheaded the Business and Law Colloquium and worked closely with alumni to develop the course. The colloquium partners with law firm practitioners, general counsels at public and private companies, business school professors and business people to serve on panels and engage with our students. The panels address salient topics including the role of the transactional lawyer (who is the client), the role of the board of directors, corporate ethics, business development, professionalism, corporate governance and managing conflicts of interest.

She has also presented papers at international conferences in Sheffield, York and Rome, and at annual meetings of the American Law and Economics Association held at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and the Harvard Law School. Her published papers appear in law reviews including Iowa, Wisconsin, Pittsburgh, American, SMU, Wake Forest and Hastings. Cambridge University Press has published Kostritsky’s chapter on contract interpretation in a book on contracts and commercial law. Her work is interdisciplinary and empirical. She has published articles on preferred stock, choice of law in merger agreements, the framework contracts in the supply chain, illegal contracts, implied terms and contract interpretation.

Kostritsky is a member of the prestigious American Law Institute which publishes the Restatements of the Law, a set of treatises on legal subjects that seek to inform judges and lawyers about general principles of common law. She has also served as a member of the Contracts Drafting Committee for the National Council of Bar Examiners, and has won numerous teaching awards from the 1L and 3L classes.
