"Prove It! Who Says Theoretical Math is Hard?"

Did you ever wonder what a proof is? Come find out and discover that learning to do mathematical proofs is like learning to play chess. In chess, you have to learn the names of the pieces and how they move. For proofs, you have to learn the names of the 鈥減roof techniques鈥� and how they work. As an in-class test, I will present several simple examples and you will have to decide if I have proved it or not. Will you pass or fail? (This talk requires no knowledge beyond high school geometry and algebra.)
BIOGRAPHY:
Daniel Solow was born in Washington, D.C. at a very young age. He soon learned that Danny was his name and mathematics was his game. After completing his Ph.D. at Stanford in 1978, he has been a professor at 黑料吃瓜网 where he developed systematic methods for teaching mathematical proofs and reasoning. He also does basic research in developing algorithms for solving mathematical problems and builds mathematical models to study the role of leadership.
